Get to Know Brandon Woolf

A Commitment to Excellence

Brandon Woolf, a conservative Republican and Idaho’s 21’s State Controller, is the eldest of Dennis and Liz Woolf’s five children. From an early age, he worked on his Grandpa Winward’s dairy farm in Whitney, Idaho, where he milked cows, cleaned sheds, moved pipe and hauled hay with his grandpa, uncle, and cousins. As soon as he was old enough to reach the pedals on the family’s Allis-Chalmers and Massey Ferguson tractors, he started working.

Just like all Idahoans, the values of hard work and perseverance are at Brandon’s core.

He graduated from Preston High School as student body president. In high school, he played football and baseball, was a member of the National Honor Society, and a Top Ten Honor Student. Active in Scouting throughout his youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout by working with Rep. Robert C. Geddes to complete his Eagle Project. To this day he still lives by the Scouting motto, “Be Prepared.”

Following high school, Brandon served a two-year church mission in Antwerp, Belgium, where he became fluent in Dutch. After his mission he attended Utah State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Cum Laude) with a minor in Dutch. He was also a Golden Key International Honor Society member, all the while working full time in college driving a milk truck. Brandon may be the only state constitutional officer who holds a current CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)!

In 1997, after completing undergraduate work he was hired as an intern at the Idaho State Controller’s Office. His tireless work ethic helped him rise through the ranks serving as a training specialist in the office’s Division of Statewide Payroll, bureau chief, division administrator over Statewide Payroll, deputy chief of staff, and chief of staff. While working full time at the Idaho State Controller’s Office he also earned a Master of Business Administration from Boise State University and was a Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society member.

October of 2012 saw a vacancy arise in the post of State Controller, and Brandon was appointed to serve the remainder of that term with a unanimous confirmation from the Idaho State Senate. In 2014 he was elected to serve a full term of office as your State Controller!

Brandon married his incredible wife, best friend, and third-grade sweetheart Janalee in 1994 and together they have three children: Brittney, Justin, and Bailey. The Woolf family is active in youth sports and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The values that so many Idahoans hold dear, faith, family and service, have helped guide Brandon’s life and molded him into the leader he is today. Your trust and support are important to him and he is committed to earning both, and serving the people of Idaho to the best of his ability.
